UPCOMING EVENT

BALLOONS OVER THE NORTH PRIMARY

Next week we will be reading the story Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade by Melisa Sweet. Balloons Over Broadway is the inspirational story of the puppeteer, Anthony “Tony” Frederick Sarg, whose imagination and ingenious balloon creations lead to theinvention of the giant balloons that have delighted viewers for almost 100 years in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

With this historic event in mind, the 2nd grade teachers have decided to hold our own version of the Thanksgiving Parade. Your child’s job is to create a “balloon” or puppet for our holiday parade that matches the theme chosen by the students in his/her classroom. Students may use items from around the house – recycled materials, paper, cardboard, string, Styrofoam balls, fabric, craft sticks, felt, holiday crafts, old costumes, etc. Completed projects should be brought to school by Thursday, November 21st so students can complete a writing assignment describing their balloons/puppets and prepare for our parade on Tuesday, November 26th

Please feel free to make this a family project! The North Primary Second Grade Parade coordinators thank you for your help!
