Some recent controversies has sparked over the nominations for best picture of the year. A movie most unheard of racked up an extensive list of nominations. Furthermore, there’s films on the list that have fans begging for recognition. Here’s the ten nominees for best picture. Which ones are you rooting for?
1. Anora- A woman named Anora living a risky lifestyle gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she decides to spontaneously marry the son of an oligarch.
2. The Brutalist- The story of a Hungarian-Jewish architect who immigrates to the United States after surviving the Holocaust where he meets a wealthy client who helps him to achieve the American Dream.
3. A Complete Unknown- A story that follows Bob Dylan’s career, following him from his arrival in New York.
4. Conclave- This political film is about electing a new pope in the Catholic Church following the death of the previous one. This process leads to the reveal of hidden motives and secrets within the church.
5. Dune: Part Two- Paul Atreides unties with Chani and Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators that destroyed his family.
6. Emilia Pérez- A story of a transgender cartel member who fakes her death for a new start, abandoning her family. The movie follows her reconnection with her family.
7. I’m Still Here- A mother must reinvent her life proceeding arbitrary violence during a military dictatorship in Brazil, 1971.
8. Nickel Boys- Based on the true story of the Dozier School for Boys, we follow the abuse a young black boy endured after being wrongly sent to a reform school.
9. The Substance- A woman looking to regain her youth tries a substance that allows her to create a younger, more beautiful version of herself. The film shows the extreme lengths people will take reclaim their youth.
10. Wicked- The broadway musical and novel tells the tale of Glinda and Elphaba, two witches and their path to friendship.
