WAHS District Band Participants

From January 22-24, fifteen Wallenpaupack students went to the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 9 Band Festival at Mountain View High School. The festival consisted of the top 130 musicians (10th,11th, and 12th grades) from 30 high schools across Wayne, Pike, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, and Wyoming counties. They rehearsed together for two days then culminated with a Friday evening concert, with Dr. Jason Worzbyt from Indiana University of Pennsylvania appearing as a guest conductor.
Back in November, in order to be chosen for this event, students submitted an audition tape of them playing their instruments. The fifteen Wallenpaupack students selected were Nora Warner, Jewel Dickerman, Theodora Whitehouse, Eric Staskowski, Brayden Hoffmann, Nathan Freethy, Orson Whitehouse, Kristian Nistad, Genevieve Neenan, Hunter Sasala, Sara Kovacs, Tyler Marino, Brad Miehle, Wesley Morrison, and Rachel Van Louvander. Placing first place in their sections were Nora, Jewel, Orson, Genevieve, Hunter, Sara, and Brad. Additionally, eleven of the students will be advancing to the Region Band festival held at Williamsport Area High School in March. They are Nora, Jewel, Theodora, Nathan, Orson, Kristian, Genevieve, Hunter, Sara, Brad, and Rachel.
