March Madness, a term well known as a massive clash between colleges in some of the biggest basketball games in the nation. From building stat-based brackets to fantasy leagues to even the food, many people find some interest in the month that comes in like a lion and goes out with the finals of one of the largest tournaments in the country. However, starting last year and continuing into this one, the Buckhorn Student Council is adding another big-name basketball event to the list.
On Thursday the 27th, the student body will assemble a team of their best to compete against the teachers in a game to rival the best of the colleges. The event is planned to start at 5:30 and runs the length of a whole high school game. With the faculty playing the home court, the other students and staff can only wonder, does the “away” set of students have what it takes to topple the teachers?
If any potential viewers are on the fence about attending what is already a once in a school year event, the Student Council has even more incentive for the community to attend. A concession stand will be running, selling pizza and more goods. Furthermore, during half time two games will be held for a multitude of small prizes, gift cards, and a chance to win $50. The first game will be a half-court shot challenge, and the second will be a mini shot accuracy contest, so all are welcomed to try their skill at the competitions.
The Student Council is taking volunteers with open arms, and any interested should see Mrs. Campbell or Señor Smith for more information.
