On March 20, Wallenpaupack’s Transition Program took its monthly trip to Woodloch to help prepare students for a real-world workplace. The program was established six years ago as a solution to the high cost and problems that came from sending students to distant districts for similar purposes. By creating their own work-focused program, Wallenpaupack ensured that students can gain practical experiences closer to home and avoid numerous lengthy trips.

The Transition Program is designed to help students prepare for future employment by providing them with hands-on experiences. One a month, students travel to Woodloch, where they are divided into groups and assigned to different local businesses. Occasionally, students from nearby districts also join as Wallenpaupack is one of the few school districts in the area with a Transition Program.

During this specific visit, six students performed several tasks at Woodloch’s facilities. At Gigi’s Coffee House, one group learned how to make specialty beverages like cappuccinos, lattes, and macchiatos. These experiences mirrored the operations of a real coffee shop, making it relevant to students who also run the Paupack Perk. Another group worked at the Lodge at Woodloch’s laundry facility, managing tasks like washing, drying, and folding towels. Meanwhile, other students at the sports complex focused on aiding with housekeeping and cleaning.

Through these activities, the Transition Program continues to provide students with the tools they need to succeed in the workforce and prepare for their lives after graduation.
