On April 11, eight students from the Paupack Press participated in the 24th annual Tom Bigler Journalism & Media Conference at Wilkes University to gain some professional insight on journalism fields. Throughout the day, students from various areas split into groups, listened to guest speakers who are involved with real journalism and media-based careers, and received awards for their own work.

Upon arrival, students were grouped and taken to rooms where different speakers would have a chance to give their own personal stories and insights on their careers. Attendees were given the chance to ask various questions and gain a real perspective of what a real journalist/media-based career is like.

Afterwards, all attendees were taken to a large presentation room where the keynote speaker spoke to everyone about his own life story and struggles. He mentioned how he didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life, how he had thirteen majors in college, and eventually found his love for the media and getting the chance to speak to people.

To wrap up the day, awards were announced and given to different students and schools for their respective work and achievements. This year, Wallenpaupack received 2nd place in the competition for overall excellence for publication of a student newspaper. Although our paper is digital, we managed to gain second place for editions either digital or print.
