Last Sunday, the Wallenpaupack Area North Elementary Schools Parent Teacher Student Association (WANES PTSA) and the Hawley Public Library collaborated to host their annual Run to Read 5K Run/Walk that also serves as a fundraiser for the library. The race’s start and end point was in Bingham Park in Hawley, with the walking participants starting at 8:30 a.m. and the running participants starting a half-hour later. The course took the participants along the Lackawaxen River, past the library, and through Riverside Park. They then ascended through the historic Green Gates Cemetery before descending back through town and Riverside Park, concluding where the race began back at Bingham Park. Trophies were awarded to the 1st place overall male and female finishers, subsequently Tiffany Leventhal with a time of 20:25 and Adam Salvatori with a time of 23:43. Overall, the 5k race gathered over 70 runners and walkers, and the raised money for the library totaled over $1000, marking this year’s event as another success.
