The Wallenpaupack Area High School Concert and Jazz Bands performed their winter concert on December 3.
The Jazz Band (pictured) is an auditioned group that typically rehearses on Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. The program for the Jazz Band featured year-round favorites including an arrangement of Bridge Over Trouble Water. The group also performed classic holiday tunes in a variety of jazz styles. The performance featured solos from Katelyn Foster, Nathan Freethy, Brayden Hoffmann, Kaiya Kampf, Genevieve Neenan, Kristian Nistad, and Hunter Sasala. In addition to performing at this concert, the Jazz Band also performed for the WAHS Band and Color Guard Craft Fair in November.
The WAHS Concert Band rehearses within Block 3 or 4 on A-days and gets to work together only two times prior to their winter concert. Their repertoire included a variety of winter and holiday themed pieces. Alexis Baker was a featured soloist. Students had the opportunity to explore music from a variety of cultures through pieces like A Hanukkah Festival, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and Solstice Dance. The WAHS Marching Band continued to spread holiday cheer by performing at the Hawley Winterfest Parade on Saturday, December 13.
Students have enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate this holiday season by making music with friends and performing for the community.
