The Wallenpaupack Boys Basketball team have continued to have ups and downs week in and week out. With a 5-8 record staying consistent seems to be their last hurdle to get over before getting to the next level of competition. However, that doesn’t mean that they are playing poorly. This past Friday, the Buckhorns took on league rival North Pocono in a much-anticipated matchup. Recently, Paupack has had North Pocono’s number, beating them three times last season. This created a strong drive for both teams with Paupack not wanting to give up any ground and North Pocono feeling like they owe the Bucks one.
It was a closely contested, physical game the entire way through. Neither team showed any quit the duration of the game, but it would be the Buckhorns who would come out on top 49-39. Wallenpaupack held the lead the entirety of the game which helped them stay collected when North Pocono would make a run. The Buckhorns had four players that scored double digits in the game with Nick VanBuskirk leading the scoring with fourteen points, JP Yeo just behind him scoring thirteen points, and both Diego Adames and Grady Liddy having 10 points apiece. North Pocono is a team that Paupack will see again at least once, with a third face-off in the playoffs seeming likely, so it was important to get the first game of the series in the win column.
The Buckhorns showed their battle with consistency in their following game. Scranton Prep would be their next opponent and while no cakewalk nobody expecting the final result that would come. Paupack seemed discombobulated the entire game and the Cavaliers took full advantage running them out of the gym. It will be interesting to see how the Buckhorns respond to this loss in their next game against another formidable opponent in Abington. If the pattern continues they should play this one close, but in order to become their best Paupack needs to break the pattern by playing at their highest level every game. The game against Abington is away at Abington Heights Highschool with Varsity tip-off at 6:45.
