Wallenpaupack’s unified bocce purple team competed in the league meet February 17 at North Pocono High School, facing seven other teams for a chance to advance to regionals.

Eight teams took part in the meet, with the top three qualifying for regionals. Unfortunately, Wallenpaupack’s White team narrowly missed the cutoff for leagues by just one-tenth of a point, leaving the purple team as the school’s lone representative.

Wallenpaupack opened strong with a close game against Delaware Valley. The game was extremely tight as no more than one point was scored in any frame. Ultimately, the purple team secured a 4-2 win. In their second game, Wallenpaupack continued with their success and defeated North Pocono 9-5.

Despite already guaranteeing their spot for regionals, Wallenpaupack’s final game would determine if they got gold or silver in the league meet. Facing one of Abington Height’s teams, Wallenpaupack built an early lead with a four-point frame. The match tightened and ended up tied 7-7 before Wallenpaupack won the tiebreaker to earn an 8-7 victory and the league title.

Wallenpaupack will compete in the regional meet on March 10 at Penn State Schuylkill. Currently, the furthest Wallenpaupack’s bocce team has ever earned was 5th place at regionals (last year). This year, the purple team hopes to change that by earning first place at the regional meet and qualifying for states.
