On March 19, the varsity softball team started their season strong, defeating Western Wayne by a score of 15-2. Wallenpaupack in total collected 12 hits and holding Western Wayne to just three. This was due to their strong defense and dominate pitching lineup. Gabrielle Hieber started the game for the team and was able to strike out five hitters. Alexa Laing kept the momentum in favor of Paupack, striking out one and only allowing one earned run. And finally, Anna Babyak was able to close out the game, striking out five hitters. Not only in the circle did Gabrielle perform, but also at the plate collecting three hits for the team.

After this win for Paupack, they hoped to continue their momentum into their next game against Mid Valley on Tuesday. This game did not go how they would’ve liked, and they lost by a score of 7-1. In this game, Mid Valley was able to collect eight hits and hold Paupack to only three. In the field, Paupack showed great strength, only committing one error. Paupack had two strong pitchers in the circle, but Mid Valley’s strong offense was on fire. Gabrielle Hieber pitched five innings for Paupack and collected two strikeouts and allowed seven hits. Alexa Laing, who came in to pitch later in the game, gave up only one hit. On offense, Lucy Babyak, Sarah Decker, and Adrianna Milutunovic each collected one hit each, Babyak’s was a triple and Milutinovic’s was a double.

Today, the varsity team plays Dunmore at home.
