South Paw staring Jake Gyllenhaal, directed by Antoine Fuqua is an emotional masterpiece. It follows the rise-fall-redemption cycle, and a perfect underdog story. It is such a compelling piece of work, and the powerhouse of an actor Jake was a perfect cast to play Billy Hope. It is impossible to not want Billy and his family succeed in this movie. The movie hits a sensitive string on the viewer. It captures the side of a fierce victor of boxing and the crushing vulnerability of a mourning father in the same story. To add, the physical appearance of Jake was the ‘cherry on top’ having to train to star in this movie, being at the very pinnacle of his physical appearance. South Paw scored a 7.4 on IMDb and 75% rotten tomatoes on release in 2015.
