The Boy’s and Girl’s soccer teams are off to slow starts. Although big wins from both teams came late last week, they provided glimmers of hope.
The boys opened their season against Bangor Area and lost a close one 1-0. Ever since then, it has been tough sledding, losing seven straight and going 0-5 in the competitive Lackawanna Division One Conference. Finally, on Thursday the 19th, the boys picked up their first win against the 1-5 Scranton Knights, ending their eight-game drought, and putting a one in the win column. The Buckhorns dominated the game, scoring five goals compared to Scranton’s three. Sophomore stud Colby Bonagura added a goal, along with junior Robert Kratzer. Forward David Mrowka, punched in three goals to put the bucks on top. The win moved the boys to 7th in the division, surpassing Scranton and boasting an overall record of 1-8. Paupack looks to pick up some wins this week, as they play on Tuesday home vs North Pocono, and Thursday home vs Abington Heights.
The girls, although struggling as well, are picking it up and playing better recently. They boast a 2-6-1 record but are also coming off a big win vs Mountain View 2-1. The girls, however, started strong, winning their first game against Pittston Area with a dominating score of 4-0. Unfortunately, though, that would be all for a while, as they would go winless for their next seven and tie against the rival Honesdale Hornets. Senior captain Ella Smith has seven goals on the year and seven assists recently boasting a hattrick in a tough loss to North Pocono 5-3. The girls play on Friday at Elk Lake.
