On Friday, March 14, two pilots, Peter Lentine and Ian Calhoun came to Wallenpaupack to provide guidance about future careers in aviation to the students of the Wallenpaupack Aeronautical Science and Aviation (WASA) program. Students were excused during fourth block to go to the meeting in room 244.
Ian Calhoun is a charter pilot for East Coast Jets and Peter Lentine is a pilot for Jet Blue. Lentine and Calhoun met while working together at East Coast Jets, a jet charter service. Calhoun had an interest in aviation since high school and continued after with a four-year program which got his degrees in aviation management, private instrumentation, and commercial aviation, along with his CFI (certified flight instructor) and multi-engine rating. On the other hand, Lentine received training at Florida Tech. After flying for East Coast Jets, he started working for Jet Blue as a commercial pilot as a first officer. At the end of the presentation, the two pilots gave their advice for aviation career paths; do not focus on the end and have fun along the way because no matter what path you take, you’ll end up at the same place.
