The season officially started for Wallenpaupack’s softball team at home onSaturday March 16, and they made a statement! Their opponent was a tough, gritty Old Forge Blue Devils team that has a history of great softball. Old Forge won the District Two title last year and made it to the second round of states. Even in preseason, this would be a good test for the Lady Buckhorns.
Led by Gabby Hieber, Wallenpaupack laid waste to the Blue Devils. They jumped out to an early three to zero lead in the first. Old Forge was able to get one run back in the third inning. But in the bottom of the third, Gabby Hieber hit a two-run home run to put the Lady Bucks up 5-1. It was all Paupack from there. They put the game to bed in the sixth inning with an RBI double from Adrianna Milutinovic, and a three-run rocket shot from Gabby Hieber. The final score was nine to two Wallenpaupack, and it was astatement win against a Lady Devils teamthat will play in Florida for the first three games of their season.
The first game of the season for Wallenpaupack is Tuesday March 19, as they travel to play Wyoming Area.
