The WAHS Girls Tennis team is wrapping up another successful season! Coached by Chris Doty, the team created a season record of 14 wins and 4 losses. The girls took part in the District Two “AAA” Finals where they unfortunately lost to Abington Heights but gave a valiant effort in all matches played!
Their Starters Include:
First Singles: Sarah Niemiec
Second Singles: Alaina Burke
Third Singles: Soleil Wright or Olivia Kogan
First Doubles: Cadance Danelski and Victoria Latek
Second Doubles: Samira Feller and either Soleil Wright or Olivia Kogan
With other letter winners/starters:
Abby Cykosky – Doubles
Alex Spritzler – Doubles
Laila Golsharizi – Doubles
Emily Jensen – Doubles
Coach Doty recognizes many of the season’s highlights, but defines their greatest victory as, “defeating the top seed, Crestwood, in the District Two Semi-Final match on October 8, at Kirby Park in Wilkes Barre. Crestwood, the Wyoming Valley Conference Big School champion, had a season record of 13 wins and one loss, and our girls defeated them four to one.”
Moving forward Senior Sarah Niemiec (who has earned the fourth seed) and Junior Alaina Burke (who earned the 7th scene) competed in the District Two Singles Tournament at Kirby Park on Friday October 11th. Both won their first-round matches, and while Alaina was defeated in her quarterfinal match, Sarah won her match and secured her place in the final four on Monday, October 14 at Birhwood. On the 14, she made it to the semi finals but lost to the three-time returning district champion. Sarah did win a bronze medal.
And on Thursday October 17th two of the team’s doubles teams will compete in the District Two Doubles Tournament, and we will have an update in our next issue. The Paupack Press team wants to not only congratulate the Girls Tennis Team on their successful season but wish all the teammates luck on their future athletic endeavors.
