The Robert Spagna Championship is a storied track meet with lots of success for the Buckhorns throughout history. This year was no different for the Bucks. The Robert Spagna Championship meet is the Lackawanna League championship meet for both class AAA and AA. Though this meet is not win or go home like the district championship it is still a great look on a team’s resume.

The Buckhorns only saw first place on the podium once yesterday with Ryan Vargo being awarded first place in the discus throw. The boys also found second place in the 400-meterdash from Bryce Pagano and the 4×400 relay. Ella Smith gave the girls a second place in the 300-meter hurdles and a thirdplace in the 100-meter hurdles. Also placing second in their event was the girls 4×800 relay team. The third-place finishes for the boys included Owen Wolff placing third in both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles, Nick VanBuskirk in the high jump, and Dan Matyjaszek in the 100-meter dash. On the Girls side besides Smith the 4×100 team also made the podium.

Overall, the Lady Buckhorns placed sixth in the meet, and the boys placed third. While neither team ended in the place they wanted to, the meet showed a lot of potential for the district championship meet to come next week.
