The girls varsity softball team has made districts for their classification. Though they have had a tough stretch these past few weeks, they were still able to qualify. They are going into districts with a record of 8-8. The girls played the rescheduled game against Abington Heights and took a tough loss by score of 21-2 playing through the rain. Next, the girls had their Senior Night against Scranton Prep. The seniors this year are Clara Babyak, Kailyn Kielbasa, Josie Leighton, and Allison Sterner. Josie Leighton had a very successful night, going 2 for 3 with a grand slam. Kailyn Kielbasa also had a successful night and went 3 for 3. Allison Sterner went 3 for 3. Clara Babyak went 1 for 2. All our seniors had a very successful night at the plate on their night. Gabrielle Hieber also went 3 for 3 with a home run.
The girls’ first scheduled district game is set for May 20, and it’s now confirmed — they’ll be playing Wyoming Area at home at 4:30 PM. The outcome of other matchups will determine their next opponent and whether their following game will be played at home or away. The team fell short in this matchup with a 5–1 loss.
JV has wrapped up their season with a record of 8-2. Their games against Valley View on May 15 and against Scranton Prep on May 17 were both canceled. The girls had a very successful season with many players learning new positions and developing at those spots.
