Though it might have taken a forklift and a lot of patience, Mrs. Sandercock’s pumpkin squashed the competition again this week at the 39th Annual Giant Pumpkin Party in Grahamsville, New York. She drove her 1,119-pound pumpkin more than an hour to compete in the festival, which centers around fostering a love of reading in children of all ages, and it donates all proceeds to their public library. There are games, vendors, and of course, the pumpkin weigh off. This festival attracts people from all over—even other states— to participate in the event.
Mrs. Sandercock has taken part in this festival for 10 years now with her heaviest entry weighing 1,231 pounds. This year’s pumpkin took first prize and won her $250! There were four other pumpkins in the competition, but none could top hers. This is the last competition that her pumpkin will be taking part in this year, and a win is the perfect way to wrap up the season.
