Food for Thought

·     As Thanksgiving approaches, think about all you have learned about this holiday’s history. If your answer is, “not a lot,” that can be fixed right now!

·     The first Turkey Trot was in Buffalo, New York on the morning of Thanksgiving in 1896 and only had six participants.

·      The first Thanksgiving was a three-day festival.

·      It was originally a mid-October holiday.

·      Despite turkey being the popular main course of our food festivities, ducks, geese, and swans were proven to be the actual main course of the first Thanksgiving.

·      The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade started off using real animals from the Central Park Zoo.
