The Lady Buckhorns traveled to Scranton High School on Tuesday, January 13, to play the Lady Knights. They knew they had to come ready to play to stay competitive in the game, and the junior varsity team started strong. By the end of the half, Scranton was only up by one point, but the starting player became sick. Worried, the girls knew they had to keep fighting—and harder than before—if they wanted to secure a win. It was a close game throughout; however, Wallenpaupack managed to take the lead and finished with a narrow victory, 40–38.
Our varsity team then went on to play, but still missing key players, (Why were we missing players and who?) they were unable to come out as strongly as usual. It did not help that they were playing against many Division I–offered athletes. Unfortunately, they lost 58-29.
On Thursday, January 15, the North Pocono Lady Trojans came to Wallenpaupack’s home court. They knew they were playing yet another very skilled team, but they lacked the fire they typically bring. The JV played tough; however, it was not enough to beat their opponents, and they ended up with a loss of 32-17. The same was true for our varsity team—they played somewhat timidly, allowing North Pocono to dominate, and ended with another disappointing score of 46-19. Both teams must now take this as a lesson and come ready to play against Scranton Prep.
We can add the Prep storyline to this story later this week…
