Coach Campbell, Seniors, and Captains receiving the Sportsmanship award.
By: Reagan Anderson
This past week was a busy one for the swim team as they had their last regular season meet and then another meet on Saturday called Les Richard’s. Their last regular season meet was against West Scranton who proved to be a tough competitor. For the girls, our swimmers were able to come out on top by a score of 126-50. Sadly, the same result could not be said for the boys, who took a tough loss by a score of 92-88. This was an extremely tough loss for the boys as they were so close to defeating West Scranton despite Scranton having a diving team as well as many talented swimmers.
With many swimmers on the team showing feats that were deserving of Cap of Fame, the 2 girls that were rewarded were Sherry Aliotta and Sophie Harmuth. The 2 boys that received it were CJ Peet and Tucker Kinney.
Les Richard’s is a meet that is held yearly, with many schools attending to compete. Besides the difference in the number of schools present, this meet is also different from a regular meet because swimmers get to choose their individual events. This is a fantastic opportunity for swimmers to either try new events or to try and get a new PR in an event they would like to swim at districts. This year, there was a record-breaking amount of personal records for Paupack!
On the other hand, relay teams are chosen strategically. The girls 200 medley relay found success placing 6th and being awarded a medal. That team was composed of Zoee Stuckey, swimming backstroke, Anna Babyak, swimming breaststroke, Samira Feller, swimming butterfly, and Annalee Protasiewicz, swimming freestyle.
Sadly, after a mistake with the participants, pointed out by an opposing coach after the meet, the girls 400 relay time was disqualified from the meet. The girls originally placed 6th and medaled. The girls time will still count as an overall time but sadly the 6th place will not stand in the record books. Compared to opposing teams, Paupack was faster but due to the mistake the place will not stand. This relay team was composed of Alexa Laing, Alexis Lopes-Torres, Reagan Anderson, and Emma Waszczak.
Due to Paupack’s hard work and good sportsmanship all year they were awarded the High School Swimming 2025-2026 Sportsmanship Award. This is a distinguished award that is given out every year and goes to teams who show enthusiasm for not only their own team but also the other teams and other swimmers around them.
Next, the team moves on to Districts where only a few swimmers will be competing for each event. Fastest times will qualify for districts on the 26th and the 27th of February. Wish your Paupack swimmers’ good luck!
