On Super Bowl Sunday, the local food pantries from of Wayne County and Lakeville ran their Souper Bowl can drive, and many Wallenpaupack football players volunteered to help. This was the second year in a row the Buckhorns would show out to lend help with last year being a major success. This year’s participants from Paupack included Braydan Alma, Jamie Bermudez, Niko Bowers, Pedro Earl, Rocco Emilio, Timmy Hoehmann, Anthony Kiesendahl, Edward Kiesendahl, Jeff Klikus, Kenny Morrison, and Jake Rafferty. The can drive had two open locations one at IGA and one a Daves Super Duper. It ran from eight in the morning until two o’clock in the afternoon, and during this time the players collected both non-perishable items and monetary donations.
It wasn’t only Buckhorns that helped run this event. Some players from the Honesdale football team also volunteered their time to help out. Seeing people who put everything into trying to beat each other on the football field put their differences aside and come together for something bigger reminds all of us that we are really fighting all the same battles. The players also got to interact with different faces from the community. Seeing the uniforms would bring back memories for the alumni that were too good not to be shared with current players. It was a great community event that everyone came together to support, and it was once again another huge success setting it up to continue for years to come.
