Prom dresses are expensive. However, with the help of Operation Prom, purchasing a dress will not be an issue. The idea was bought up when Amelia Porcelli and Mayah Boogertman went to a camp and were thinking of ideas to bring back to Wallenpaupack to help make the school better. The two decided that they wanted to bring the national network to the area, so that they can help students in need for prom dresses. “It is something we can use in this area,” Amelia stated when asked why they wanted to implement Operation Prom.
With the help of Amelia’s mother, the girls, and Jessieann Gallagher started to set up right away. They set up bins around the 570 area so that people of the community can donate old dresses to the operation. The event will be on March 6 during the school day from 9 am to 3 pm at the Wallenpaupack Area High School for any high school students in need of dresses. On Saturday, March 7, the event will be from 9 am to 4 pm and open to everyone.
Anyone can sign up to volunteer for the event. The group needs volunteers to help set up the event, help during the actual event, and help put the dresses away. All help is wanted to make this operation work! If you want to sign up, contact Amelia Porcelli.
