Last week, our Wallenpaupack HOSA chapter attended the three-day State Leadership Conference in Hershey. This conference had more than 2,500 students attending this year. We had 23 students from Wallenpaupack competing in various events pertaining to the medical field. When competing, some students created presentations or videos, and some were tested on their knowledge or skills.

Attending this conference required hours of in and out of school studying and preparation. The groups who prepared presentations shared them with their teachers, their peers, the school administrators, and the school board. All students had to follow a dress code, and some had to get special certifications to compete in their events. The conference also offered keynote speakers, guest presentations, and team building exercises.

Two students from our school were fortunate enough to place in their events. Samuel Urevich got third place in Medical Terminology and Tyler Meyers got second in Biomedical Equipment Technologist. They have been invited to attend the International Leadership Conference in June. This will take place in Indianapolis, IN. Additionally, Adria Malinchak received the PA HOSA Scholarship.

This conference was a rewarding experience for everyone involved and allowed students to apply their knowledge and skills within the healthcare field. Everyone who competed should be proud of what they accomplished, and good luck to Tyler and Sam as they represent our school at the International Leadership Conference in June!
