On October 5, the National Honor Society held a meeting where the Chapter Group Community Service and Public Relations Committees met to discuss organization and logistics for launching the chapter group service project. The idea is to make this plan a district-wide initiative.
“The on-going project, collecting aluminum tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House, will begin in early November,” said Mrs. Saylor and Mrs. Gilson.
I spoke with Ty Mazzga, who attended the meeting, and asked him about the meeting’s other topics. Ty stated, “We are going to collect the little can tabs and what we decided to do is we are going to group the schools together because it is unfair for the high school to have a thousand kids and the primary school to have two hundred.” As Mrs. Saylor said earlier, these tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House and the tabs, about which we are discussing, are can tabs that you find on soda cans.
On October 3, according to Mrs. Saylor, “The Executive Council met to discuss the October 23 Induction Ceremony and practice. They composed a letter that invited the Honorable Janine Edwards, Wayne County Court of Common Pleas Judge, to speak at the 7 p.m. ceremony; and she has accepted the invitation. Her topic will be community service.”
I also spoke with Olivia Tighe, who is an Executive Council Member, and who attended the meeting, and she said, “We also talked about if Induction Council is going to speak or if the Executive Council is going to speak at the Induction Ceremony.”
It is amazing to see all the work that the National Honor Society is accomplishing so far, and this is just the beginning!
