On Wednesday, May 13, students from Aevidum and FBLA visited the Hawley Active Adults Center to celebrate Older Americans Month through activities focused on healthy aging, connection, and community involvement. Students participated in yoga, soccer, a preview of “Bingocize,” and other activities alongside members of the center.
The event highlighted the value of bringing generations together to create stronger and healthier communities. Having attended previous years, the clubs were excited to return after last year’s positive experience. Center participants once again enjoyed the students’ company and were impressed by their personalities and social skills.
The collaboration between the center and the high school will continue May 26, when students from Dr. Schkolenko’s engineering class will visit the center for International Airplane Day. Students and center participants will work together to design, test, and fly paper airplanes in a competition featuring obstacle courses, target challenges, distance flights, airtime contests, and acrobatics. Prizes will be awarded, but the event is also meant to encourage teamwork, creativity, and meaningful connections between younger and older adults.
