On Thursday, September 24, two Wallenpaupack High School students stepped into the world of radio reporting with a visit to Bold Gold Radio Station in Honesdale. Junior Molly Cunningham and freshman Reagan Buselli toured the station, met members of the Bold Gold team, and got an inside look at what goes on behind the scenes of local radio.

For both students, the trip was an exciting opportunity to experience a different side of journalism and learn how news can reach the community through radio. They were able to see the studio firsthand, learn more about the day-to-day work of the station, and even jump right into the experience by recording their own introductions with Justin in the booth. Rather than simply observing, the students got the chance to begin participating in the process themselves.

The Bold Gold staff, led by News Director and Social Media Coordinator Justin Gombita, welcomed the students throughout the visit and shared their excitement about bringing more student voices into their daily news coverage. With student reporters contributing to local broadcasts, the partnership gives Wallenpaupack students a unique opportunity to develop their communication and reporting skills while also sharing stories and perspectives from within their own school community.

While Cunningham and Buselli are new to the radio experience, they are joining a group of students who have already become involved with Bold Gold. Junior Reagan Anderson and senior Edward Kiesendahl have previously taken part in the station’s student reporting opportunities. Junior Reilly Buselli is also joining the group this year, although she was unable to attend the station visit.

Opportunities like this allow students to take their interest in journalism beyond the walls of the school and apply it in a real-world setting. For students involved in Paupack Press, as well as those simply interested in journalism, broadcasting, or trying something new, getting behind the microphone offers a chance to build confidence, learn from professionals, and become more connected to the community they are reporting on.

A big thank-you goes to the Bold Gold staff for welcoming our students into the station and giving them the opportunity to explore this new side of journalism. We are excited to see where this growing group of student reporters takes their voices next!
