Avery Ruggiero, a junior at Wallenpaupack Area High School, was selected as The Paupack Press’s Junior of the Week for her involvement in Volunteers in Paupack (VIP), where she serves as vice president. Now in her second year in the club, Avery has made lasting memories while giving back to her community.

Avery first joined VIP as a sophomore after hearing about the positive impact it had on both its members and the community. Her friends, who were already involved in the club, shared how much they enjoyed volunteering, inspiring her to join herself.

Since joining, Avery has participated in various events, with the Hawley Hoedown standing out as her favorite. She enjoys the opportunity to connect with the community and help create a fun experience for local children. Another memorable experience was volunteering at Winterfest dressed as an elf alongside her friend Lily, who was dressed up as a snowman. Due to the freezing temperatures, Avery recalled having to do jumping jacks every few minutes to stay warm, making the experience a humorous memory she won’t forget. Between volunteering, spending time with friends and making memories at community events, VIP has become one of Avery’s favorite extracurricular activities.

For students considering joining VIP, Avery encourages them to take the opportunity. “There is never a boring day; we get stuff done, and we have fun,” Avery explains. “Even if you’re just thinking about it, just do it!”
