Maya Hirzallah, a junior at Wallenpaupack Area High School, was selected as The Paupack Press’s Junior of the Week for her involvement in the tennis team, where she has been a member for four years. What began as an interest in trying something new during middle school has grown into a meaningful experience filled with improvement, teamwork and lasting memories.
Maya first became interested in tennis in middle school when she wanted to explore a new activity. Tennis stood out to her as a great option, leading her to join the team and continue playing throughout high school. This year, Maya played second doubles and earned the opportunity to compete on the varsity team. One of her proudest achievements this season was reaching varsity and continuing to improve each day.
Throughout her four years on the team, some of Maya’s favorite memories have come from spending time with her best friends and teammates. Playing tennis alongside her closest friends has made the experience especially meaningful, while the team’s bonding sleepover stands out as another highlight. Beyond competing, Maya values the supportive environment the team has created, where everyone encourages one another and celebrates each other’s growth. Being part of the tennis team has given her the opportunity to develop her skills while building friendships and creating memories she will cherish.
Overall, Maya is especially grateful to be part of such a special team and appreciates the encouragement and support she has received throughout her tennis career. For Maya, her involvement in tennis will be something she looks back on fondly for years to come.
