Mrs. Alison Hoffman, the director, describes the show as a classical musical that sports lots of fun with song and dance numbers that people are going to love. The story is about the relationships between men and women during the 1950s and how they meet and fall in love despite their circumstances. Mrs. Hoffman explains how the two star couples “withstand trials and tribulations in relationships.” The story centers around two gamblers and their whirlwind love stories.
When asked about the challenges, Mrs. Hoffman explains that the biggest challenge has been the choreographing. “The cast is not exactly…experienced,” she explains, going on to say, “The set is taking a while. We’re at a point where we should be rehearsing with a full set, but we’re not. It makes it harder for our whole cast and crew.” With a cast of 27 and a full crew of over 70, Mrs. Hoffman does it all. She explains that the show is a “well-oiled machine.” There are several groups, each with a student representative who keeps rehearsals on track to make sure the list of activities gets done. These representatives also communicate back to Mrs. Hoffman whenever any issues arrive. “We try. We try really hard.”
The costumes are a total mixing pot. Some are borrowed from the Ritz Theater in downtown Hawley or from an involved parent who has access to costume stock. Other costumes are bought, while the rest are handmade. During the interview, Mrs. Hoffman sat calmly while sewing a sparkly blue top for the show.
Rehearsals have been running since early January and will run until opening night. Hoffman says how the cast and crew have worked extremely hard. “It’s amazing to see so many people work hard to bring it together. We’re like a family.“
