On September 25, Wallenpaupack Area High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program proudly launched its World of Wonders (WOW) initiative, where high school students work directly with children from the local community, ranging in age from three to six years old. Every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, each high school student is assigned to one of these children, taking on the important responsibility of creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment.
The students create lesson plans and can either work individually or in pairs, taking turns as the lead teacher for the week. During their lead week, they present three unique lesson plans for the program’s opening or closing circle activities, helping the children grow through fun and educational experiences.
Melissa Geisheimer, who teaches Child Care 1, 2, and 3, has done an amazing job guiding these high school students year after year, providing them with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the classroom. Suzanne Rowe, who teaches introductory childcare classes, has also been instrumental in preparing the students for the WOW program. Together, their dedication has shaped a successful initiative that offers valuable experience to students and a supportive environment for young children in the community.
