Many athletes are involved throughout the school and community. One of these activities that many boys’ and girls’ soccer players take part in is refereeing. Many of Wallenpaupack’s soccer athletes grew up playing in the Wallenpaupack Youth Soccer League (WYSL). This league ranges from 4u to 12u. Every Saturday, many games take place for all ages. Though many games in one day is ideal, there must be a referee for every game. This means that referees are always needed. Every year, high school soccer athletes are given the opportunity to learn how to officiate and then are placed into games when deemed ready. This helps keep the league running smoothly but also gives high school athletes a chance to earn community service hours if they choose. Many athletes enjoy this because they get to stay involved in their sport while also inspiring the next generation of soccer players.
