Our 2026 mock crash was organized by the SADD (Students Against Destructive Driving) club prior to prom weekend to encourage students to make safe and responsible choices while driving. Members of the SADD club— Maya Boogerman, Gabriela Heiber, Alexa Lang, Alexis Lopes-Torres, Kiana Madrigal, and Zoe Stucky— acted out a ‘mock crash’ scene in which, a car of girls were distracted by their phones, causing the driver to run a red light and collide head on with another vehicle.
Two cars from a junkyard were placed in the school parking lot to showcase the consequences of distracted driving. The girls wore special effects of makeup to appear as though they were just in a real crash, acting out a realistic scene for students to watch. Local police and fire departments showed up to the scene and brought ambulances, fire trucks, as well as staff to assist. Protective Service students also helped with getting the “injured” girls on stretchers and into the ambulance, giving them valuable hands-on experience.
The impact of this crash caused two deaths, Alexis Lopes-Torres and Kiana Madrigal, three girls to be seriously injured, Maya Boogerman, Gabriela Heiber, Zoe Stucky, and one arrested, Alexa Lang. The mock crash is to represent the very real dangers and consequences of what could happen when driving irresponsibly. It served as a reminder that not only can distracted driving harm yourself, but others as well.
