Now that it is officially fall, it’s the perfect time to get back to reading! The cool weather, changing scenery, and upcoming holiday-filled months make it a perfect time to return to classic stories loved by many. One of the best ways to get back into reading is by rereading stories you’ve already loved. Going back to the worlds of your favorite characters reminds you of why you were so engaged in reading the first time and gives you the opportunity to notice new details. I think the perfect book for this is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series has gained much popularity since its release in 1997. Over 500 million copies of the book have been sold worldwide, and it has been translated into over 80 languages. While there has been a movie adaptation of the book, and an upcoming TV series on HBO, there are many details unique to the original book form.

The first book of the series introduces you to the magical wizarding world hidden within England as Harry, the title character, learns of his powers and is taken to Hogwarts, a school for wizards. Throughout the book, you’ll be introduced to his new friends and the many adventures they take through the school year. This book does an excellent job creating a whole new world in a way that is interesting but not overwhelming.

Set throughout the entire school year, you will see the characters in many seasons, but a primary focus is the fall and winter during Halloween and the holiday season. This makes now a perfect time to start the book, so your reading will align with the seasons outside.

The story features themes of friendship, love, and bravery. While other books in the series get more intense, this book is a lighter introduction to the story. It is a great read for any age group. This was one of the first books I read with my parents, so it is very special to me.

The book is available in the school library. Not a physical book fan? There are several award-winning audiobook recordings of this series.

Whether you have already read or watched the series, or are looking to try something new, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is the perfect book to get you engaged in reading this fall.
