Breast Cancer Awareness Month takes place every October and is an international campaign that focuses on educating people about breast cancer and finding ways to reduce the risk of the disease. Breast cancer affects millions of women around the world, making awareness and early detection especially important.
The month is best known for its pink theme and includes different campaigns and programs that support people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, including those with metastatic breast cancer. It helps educate people about risk factors and encourages everyone, including women, men, transgender, and non-binary people, to understand their risk of developing breast cancer. A goal that was set was to encourage regular screenings, which often begin at the age of 40 for women with average risk, or earlier for those with a higher risk. In addition, Breast Cancer Awareness Month raises money for research to improve treatments and find better ways to fight the disease.
