Book Review: The Love Hypothesis

By: Kiana Madrigal

With the movie rendition newly released, I’d like to feature The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood in this weeks’ edition. The Love Hypothesis was published in 2021 and is a romance novel starring biology and pumpkin spice lattes.

Set at Stanford University, the story follows a third-year biology Ph. D. candidate, Olive Smith. She’s trying to convince her best friend, Anh, that she has moved on from her ex-boyfriend. To do so, Olive impulsively grabs and kisses the first man she sees— an intelligent and notoriously intimidating professor, Dr. Adam Carlsen.

The Love Hypothesis is the perfect book to read during the fall season. It is a lighthearted and enjoyable read with a classic romance plot that makes it easy to get invested in the story. I found myself quickly getting drawn to the characters and their charming personalities, which made the book difficult to put down. I would consider it one of the best romance books I have read. It is also a great palate cleanser for anyone taking a break from a longer book series or waiting for the next installment to be published. Every time someone asks for a book recommendation, The Love Hypothesis is the first book I say.
