Christopher Smith was selected as The Paupack Press’s junior of the week for his involvement in the Exercise Sports Medicine (ESSM) Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.
Growing up, Christopher was always involved in sports, which influenced his interest in finding a career in the field. Although he has not completely decided what he wants to pursue after high school, his experience in ESSM has helped him realize that he wants to work in sports medicine.
One of Christopher’s favourite memories from the program was the class field trip to the University of Scranton on October 23. During the visit, students toured a lot of the campus and learned about its physical therapy program and helped them explore various career paths.
Christopher describes ESSM as a very hands-on program that requires commitment and a willingness to learn. He would tell others interested in joining the CTE that they must overcome the initial discomfort of physical interaction and touch while developing the knowledge and skills needed for the field. Through their experiences, they can build strong relationships with their teacher and classmates.
Christopher also expresses his appreciation for the ESSM instructor Mrs. Rags. He’s grateful for her passion for teaching and the subject as a whole. He is especially thankful for the opportunity to learn from her during the first semester.
Through his involvement in ESSM, Christopher hopes to explore his future in sports medicine while gaining hands-on experience that may help guide his career after high school.
