Last Friday, all three levels of our Engineering CTE hosted Lakeland, Abington Heights, Western Wayne, and North Pocono, for the annual Engineering Competition. Each school sends two teams, and local engineers came in and presented the idea. The project this year was to build a product that can transfer products from place to place by being able to ascend, descend, and load products. Teams get many different household supplies, such as toothpicks and balloons, and have access to many tools such as rulers, saws, drills, and pliers. Out of the ten teams attending, one of Wallenpaupack’s teams placed third, while the other did not place. Mr. Heckman, teacher of all three levels of the Engineering CTE, said “The goal of the competition is for the students to apply what they are learning in the classroom into real world situations.” Overall, the competition brings positive impacts to all those who compete, as they are able to show off their abilities to translate information learned in the classroom into positive inventions and solutions to potential problems around them.
