Our community has many Halloween traditions. From trick-or-treating and pumpkin patches to parades and performances, the end of October offers many ways to celebrate. Last week, the Wallenpaupack Area High School Marching Band joined community members in Honesdale and Hawley for two Halloween parades.
On Tuesday, October 28, the band played for the Honesdale Halloween Parade. This was the group’s first parade appearance this school year. Halloween fans of all ages attended in large numbers. Also marching in the parade were many community organizations, businesses, and the marching bands from Honesdale and Western Wayne High Schools. Students performed “The Phantom of the Opera” theme from their Broadway field show, which is also a classic spooky tune for Halloween season.
The Hawley Halloween Parade was held last Saturday evening. Our marching band led the parade playing “The Phantom of the Opera.” Each instrument section and the color guard dressed up in group Halloween costumes for the occasion. Themes included the percussion as Smurfs, low voices as fast food mascots, trombones dressed as characters from the Mean Girls movie, Trumpets as the cast of /The Wizard of Oz, Mellophones as characters from the Cars movie, Alto Saxophones as characters from Alice in Wonderland, Clarients as safari creatures and guides, and Flutes as win/ter Tinker Bell fairies. The color guard dressed as characters from Monster High, and the Drum majors dressed as musical theatre characters inspired by their field show. After the parade, the band performed songs from their field show and stands music from football games in the park for the community. The percussion section earned a third-place best group costume award at the event. Overall, it was an exciting week to celebrate fall and Halloween throughout our school communities!
