As graduation nears, senior Jaslene Toro is using art as not only a passion, but also as a possible path into her future. Jaslene has been a student at Wallenpaupack since her freshman year, and she has loved art for as long as she can remember and has found joy in working with different mediums. Other than art, Jaslene has a passion for cooking and baking, especially with her friends.
Jaslene finds inspiration in different artists as well as the people in her everyday life. Her favorite artists are Salvatore Dali and Hokusai, while her biggest inspirations are Mrs. Peet and Mr. Hamill. She looks up to them because of their ability to turn anything into a masterpiece. They inspire her to work harder to become a better artist every day.
Jaslene would like to thank Mrs. Peet, Mr. Hamill, Mrs. McGinnis, and Dr. Schmalzle for keeping her motivated and getting her to where she is today. After high school, Jaslene plans to move south with her family and pursue a career in either art administration or illustration. She wants to go to Savanah College of Art and Design, where she was recently accepted.
As her years at Wallenpaupack come to a close, Jaslene reflects on the years she spent here with gratitude. Her creativity, dedication, and passion for art will take her far into the next chapter of her life. Jaslene’s advice to others is, “Always stick to what you love and take time for yourself. Remember to keep a positive mindset.”
