We are now into the second half of the high school basketball season and the Wallenpaupack Boys Basketball team have had nothing, but an adversity filled first half. Currently with a record of 3-6, the boys have only played nine games, which is by far the least of any team in the area. This can be attested to their opening tournament being cancelled, and multiple games have been moved due to weather. In the games they have played, they have seey many highs and lows. Though the team has taken strides in chemistry and overall gameplay, they have fallen short in heartbreaking fashion in many of their losses. The highlight of the season so far has been the Jaycees Tournament Championship win. The Buckhorns took down the Honesdale Hornets for the Jaycee crown bu a score of 52-45.
This past Friday, Paupack played possibly their best game though they fell short to Delaware Valley. Big man powerhouse, Nick VanBuskirk, made his presence known in the paint putting up twenty points, and JP Yeo caught fire scoring eighteen points off sixteen threes. However, a second half comeback for the Warriors gave them just enough to push through for the 64-59 win. On Tuesday, the boys played another league opponent in the Scranton Knights. The Buckhorns had not Beaten the Knights since 2022 so there was a chip on their shoulder heading into this one. Some terrific team defense and a solid offensive performance helped the Buckhorns prevail 53-33. JP Yeo, Landon Shanaberger, and Diego Adames all scored in the double digits to help keep the offense churning all game. Junior guard, Eddie Kiesendahl, held one of the Lackawanna League’s best scorers Tony Battaglia to two points through the entirety of the game which was a key component in shutting down Scranton’s explosive offense.
