This past Tuesday marked the last dual meet of the season for the Wallenpaupack track and field team, and they would face their long-time rivals: the North Pocono Trojans. The meet would come with some extra emotions for the Buckhorns with it being their senior night. Paupack would be saying goodbye to a tremendous group of seniors who have always given it all they had for the team and are terrific leaders for the underclassman. This meet perfectly symbolized the impact the seniors have had on the team.
The girls came into the meet undefeated searching for a league championship crown with a win. It would be no easy task with North Pocono’s girls also being undefeated firing on all cylinders. However, multiple standout performances from all around both on the track and in the field put the girls in a situation to win. A win in the 4×400 would tip the scale in the Buckhorns favor. With the whole team sprinting around the track in support, Paupack won the relay to take the meet 80-70 and take home the league championship.
The Boys were in a different situation as North Pocono has struggled to win throughout this season while our boys have been dominating. The trends didn’t change in this meet with the boys winning 98-52. The highlight of the meet for the guys came in the 800-meter race where Aiden Janowicz broke not only the school record but also the district record. His official time of 1:53.1 places him in the history books of District 2 and Wallenpaupack for years to come.
