Last Friday, September 25, the WAHS Marching Band welcomed 80 students to the stands for their 12th annual Middle School Band Night. Open to all WAMS Band members, the event pairs middle school students in grades 6-8 with high school “buddies.” All students were given free admission to the game to see the marching band field show and the behind-the-scenes of game days. Seventh- and Eighth-grade students then had the opportunity to play with their buddies during the game. New this year, students could choose to shadow members of our Color Guard. All participants were introduced to lots of new music, traditions, and techniques.

The event helps middle school students get an idea of what marching band is like in high school. It is an equally meaningful day for the high schoolers. Middle School Band Night is often one of the most memorable parts of middle school, so now having the opportunity to share that experience from the older student perspective is very special. It is also a chance for students to work on skills in teaching and mentoring others.

Overall, it was a great night of sharing music across many grades and a memory many will not soon forget.
