Each Tuesday, members of the Paupack Press gather to discuss all matters related to the weekly publication and receive our new assignments. Presiding over these meetings is Jewel Dickerman, one of our two editors of the paper and the voice of reason and reality. Every week, Jewel can be found working on a project, new idea, or doing service for one of her many activities. She holds a long and impressive roster of these activities including Mini Thon, Wallenpaupack Area High School Pit Band, Student Director in the World of Wonders Program, Aevidum, Paupack Press, concert band, clarinet section leader in marching band, wind ensemble, concert choir, district band, district orchestra, region band, a regional officer and co-president in Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) where she ranked 1st in the state and ranked nationally for Professional Presentation, National Honor Society (NHS) executive council, and a student ambassador.
Among this list, she notes her state and national level placement at FCCLA last school year as her proudest high school achievement. She also laments missing her childcare classmates after graduating, saying that they “created such a bond being together for the last three years.” She also notes how Mrs. Gilson and Mrs. Geisheimer have taught her “professionalism, trigonometry, and all together helped make [her]” the person she is today. She knows these memories and lessons will follow her to Eastern University next year where she will begin her major in Early Childhood Education.
The Paupack Press would like to extend a special thank you to Jewel. She works tirelessly to keep our process running smoothly and keep people accountable. Every year since she earned the title of editor-in-chief, she has been a cornerstone of the paper, and she has strived to increase the quality every week. Our paper would not be the same quality without her, and we look forward to her contributions in the coming year.
